I Watched a Cat on a Skateboard : Poem for the Kavanaugh Hearings

I watched a cat on a skateboard

go back and forth across the floor
in a gif playing as I held my phone
and watched the late night broadcast
so many clips of kavanaugh weeping
over calendars and beer and girls’ names
he cried like a man he cried like a man
who’d never need to know how to cry
I watched the shitshow of senators
watching the shitshow of crocodile tears
and thanked god the senate wasn’t buying it
like they’d have to kick out this incompetent misogynist
and find a run-of-the-mill pro lifer instead
one who didn’t cry or smear or rape or lie
and then it hit me
the senators wanted a judge who rapes
who inflicts immediate and lifelong damage
to women
the senators knew what they were getting
I watched the cat go back and forth some more
there’s a cute part where she turns her head
her humans have to give her a push
they say you shouldn’t take a shower
after you are raped
but I headed for the water
and dear god I never came out
